ProVerum Case Study - Minimally Invasive Solutions for BPH
ProVerum is developing innovative minimally invasive technologies for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). I was engaged as a Principal Design Engineer to support the design and development of their delivery system, providing expertise across mechanical design, component refinement, prototyping, manufacturing support, and verification activities.
Project Overview
Working alongside a multidisciplinary engineering team, I contributed to the development and optimisation of injection-moulded components, integration of a micro-moulded camera tip assembly, prototype evaluation, and the design and development of assembly and test fixtures to support manufacturing readiness.
The Challenge
My initial focus was the development and refinement of the camera system, including the design of miniature moulded components and integration of electronic elements to ensure the imaging system achieved the required design inputs.
As development progressed, my role expanded to resolving challenges identified during prototype evaluation, including premature component failures, design refinement, tolerance optimisation, and the creation of suitable verification methods to demonstrate that design outputs met the required performance criteria.
Engineering & Development
Material selection and component design were key considerations due to the demanding requirements of a minimally invasive medical device, including biocompatibility, dimensional control, and reliable performance in a clinical environment.
Design iterations were driven by prototype evaluation, manufacturing feedback, and usability insights, ensuring components were refined for both functional performance and manufacturability. All development activities were conducted within ProVerum's ISO 13485 quality management system, with appropriate documentation generated to support the design history file and regulatory compliance requirements.
Outcome
Through a combination of mechanical design expertise, practical manufacturing knowledge, and a structured engineering approach, I supported the progression of the device from prototype development through to verification and manufacturing preparation.
